Clay College

New build residential

Clay College

Stoke-on-Trent | Clay College | Completed

Located in Stoke-on-Trent, the historic centre of pottery production, Clay College is a new school of ceramics established by Lisa Hammond MBE, to provide a dedicated environment to learn the craft of artisan pottery. Occupying a listed building at the Middleport Pottery, recently restored by The Prince’s Regeneration Trust, the internal arrangement was developed to maximise the space as a fully functional pottery.

The listed status of the building meant that any changes had to be made without altering the existing fabric. The refurbishment provides a gallery, working areas,  a large studio space at first floor and a freestanding plywood mezzanine library that defines a staff office and guest ceramic studio .

Working closely with the client and construction team the refurbishment was carefully designed within a tight budget and programme to be constructed over just a few weeks in August 2017.
