Hathersage and Besant Courts Granted Planning Consent!
We are thrilled announce that our estate improvements proposal for Hathersage and Besant Courts for Islington Council has been granted planning consent! Located within the Newington Green Conservation Area, the two estates share a 1.26-hectare site, providing a combined total of 140 homes across three post-war housing blocks, which range from five to ten storeys in height. This community-led scheme proposes seven new infill apartment blocks, site-wide enhancements to landscaping and public realm and improvements to existing residential blocks, delivering 45 new homes across tenure-blind buildings, with 21 council homes, providing an affordable home for 74 Islington residents, and the rest for private sale. Massing, scale and materiality of the new homes have been carefully considered to compliment the Conservation Area setting and help to stitch the estate into the wider community.

Gingerbread City 2019
The Museum of Architecture's Gingerbread City is back in the V&A and SP is delighted to contribute with its baking! Candy Commerce celebrates all things food, sun and ... rain. Sifting the brief proved that a retail setting with a double height arcade encrusting commercial units, and folding on the return to enclose a community garden, was the sweetest solution. A sculptural glasshouse feeds the on-site eatery with produce. Living walls are the icing on the cake of this tribute to flour power and rainwater harvesting supports the sucrose drainage system, avoiding soggy bottoms while supplying the top-tier pool and irrigation systems. Colourful glazing sprinkles hundreds and thousands of rainbows come grain or shine, especially when illuminated during winter evenings.
