The Chocolate Works (formerly owned by Terry's) is a strategic site on the edge of York, bounded by the Racecourse Conservation Area. The proposed scheme responds to local surroundings, complementing and referencing the Grade-II listed Terry’s factory. A formal urban square at the centre of the development reflects the formality of the retained neo-classical buildings, to contrast, planting and mature trees at the site's edges will be retained.
All homes will have a private garden and terrace. They are well-proportioned with high ceilings and large windows, providing natural light and ample storage. Much of the living space has been elevated to the first-floor, leaving the majority of streets well surveilled.
