Andover Affordable Work Space
Islington | London Borough of Islington | Completion 2020
Occupying empty and underused garages on the Andover Estate the project forms an integral part of the regeneration of the estate, also being undertaken by Studio Partington. Working in collaboration with Islington Council and as part of the boroughs Affordable Workspace initiative, the project addresses the need for accessible and affordable workspace for creative groups within their own community, whilst providing improved and active street frontages. Comprising studios, workshop and light industrial units it will be supplemented by a programme providing mentoring and support for the whole community of all ages and abilities.
The first affordable workshops to be developed will support the local thriving textile community, providing individual studio units, communal workspace, exhibition space and support facilities. Regeneration of the garages will not only enhance the performance of the existing building but will provide wider community and resident benefits, including improved security, promoting social inclusion, knowledge sharing along with support of local community industry and entrepreneurship.
