Swanage Pier Regeneration

Dorset | Swanage Pier Trust | Completed

MarineVillas-9.jpg

This previously run-down Georgian building originally allowed for cold seawater bathing and is operated by a community-led trust. Studio Partington led the renovation of the mixed-use community and visitor facilities, providing cafe seating in minimal glazed extension overlooking Swanage bay. We helped to secure Heritage Lottery and Coastal Communities funding as well as planning and listed building consents with very few conditions.

The pier is a Grade II listed Victorian structure built primarily to facilitate the shipping of Purbeck marble quarried around Swanage but was also used as a pleasure pier. Marine Villas, which is also Grade II listed, was built before the pier as baths, billiard and coffee rooms but was soon converted into a house.
