Great Arthur House
Golden Lane Estate | City of London | Completed
Conversion of the ground floor of Great Arthur House providing two residential flats, and a refurbished Estates office. One two-bed wheelchair accessible flat and one-bed wheelchair adaptable flat.
As part of the wider estate improvement works, the City of London commissioned Studio Partington to convert the ground floor of Great Arthur House into either wheelchair accessible or wheelchair adaptable flats.
One flat has been designed to accommodate two bedrooms and is wheelchair accessible and the remaining flat has been designed as a one-bed wheelchair adaptable home in order to maximise its flexibility.
Mindful of Great Arthur House’s Grade II listed status, the approach to the conversion of the building’s ground floor from storage, ancillary facilities, and offices, to also provide flats, has been characterised by a desire to preserve as much of the original fabric as possible.
The Estates Office has been retained, but reduced in size to accommodate the new residential flats.
