Planning approval for a former gamekeeper's house within Castle Howard Estate
We are pleased to announce that our design for a private house extension within Castle Howard Estate, North Yorkshire has received planning consent.
The project is located on the historic Castle Howard estate and in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We should thank Rydale District Council for collating the numerous consultees responses and for initiating a constructive discussion about the historic significance of the buildings and the village. We benefited from clear and prompt feedback as the designs developed and extremely efficient management of the whole process.
The design approach is based on splitting the new extension into two components that reduces the visual impact on existing views and make natural connections to the existing accommodation. In this way a critical view of the rear house at the north east corner is unaltered and the existing split gable at the upper floor remains unaltered as does the roof line and chimney positions.
