We love getting into the (microscopic) details!

Pleasure to work with influential architectural paint historian Patrick Baty, Papers and Paints Limited to uncover the original colours at the Golden Lane Estate (Chamberlin, Powell & Bon).

Samples of rendered and painted surfaces were taken earlier this year by Patrick, with the aim of discovering the colours used when the buildings were first erected between 1953 - 1962. Samples were viewed in cross section under a microscope to show the layers of paint / historic colour schemes.

Patrick's analysis showed that the paint colours used have changed over time and a suspicion that some surfaces were unpainted originally. His report includes identifying colour references from BS2660: 1955 Colours for Building and Decorative Paints. We are now working with Keim Mineral Paints Limited to find contemporary colour matches.
