Andover Estate Townhouses

Holloway | Islington Council | Completed 2024

The first Phase of the Andover Estate Masterplan provide 16 townhouses delivering exemplar sustainable family homes each with a private garden and wider landscape amenity, play, and community planting, enhancing safety and legibility of the existing routes.

Delivered as 12 generous terraced 2 and 3 bedroom homes framed by a 3 bedroom 6 person house at each end, along with a detached apartment building with wheelchair homes at ground level.

The well-proportioned, three-storey terraced homes are constructed in a brick which contrasts with that of the neighbouring Old Andover.  Each entrance is defined by a generous canopy with integrated bin storage, and an oriel window at second floor which provides light deep into the houses.

The materials palette is limited, selected for longevity and low maintenance and includes brick with a rusticated base, metal entrance detailing and a slate roof finish with integrated solar panels.

The site boundary to the adjacent Old Andover is relocated to provide a more generous and secure public realm for all residents, with planting to the front of the townhouses and to the edge of Old Andover. Provided as part of the landscape masterplan, a communal planting area, with raised beds for food production, surrounds an accessible and secure play space.
